KISS Approach to the Lymphatic System

KISS Approach to the Lymphatic System

What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-lighting white blood cells, throughout the body.
The lymphatic system primarily consists of lymphatic vessels, which are similar to the circulatory system’s veins and capillaries. The vessels are connected to lymph nodes, where the lymph is filtered. The tonsils, adenoids, spleen and thymus are all part of the lymphatic system. They work in conjunction with the cardiovascular system.

How do you know your lymphatic system is in need of assistance?

  • Cellulite
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Arthritis
  • Oedema

KISS Start your lymphatic system

There are many things you can do to support your lymphatic system, such as breathing walking, massage and sweating to name a few but the two most effective things you can do for your lymphatic system is to give up sugar and lymphatic brush/dry brush your body for ten minutes twice a day before bathing or showering.

Quit Sugar

Sugar is pretty much is added to all processed foods, from soft drinks to breakfast cereals. Start eating whole foods such as vegetables, nuts, eggs and meats (if you aren’t vegetarian). Read the labels on foods bearing in mind that 4g of sugar is equivalent to one teaspoon of sugar. Do your best to limit your sugar intake to 6 teaspoons of sugar at the most if you do find yourself eating sugary foods.

Lymphatic Brushing/Dry Brushing

The way I like to dry brush is to begin at the feet and work my way up to torso in long flowing strokes towards the heart. If you have time I recommend 20 strokes in one position. Dry brush your buttocks in a circular movement, then work on your abdominal area in a clockwise motion. Next work on your hands then up your arms, again towards the heart. When you get to your back ensure that you are brushing towards the heart and finally when you reach your chest area, make sure that you brush towards your heart, and your heart is located slightly off centre on the left side of your body. I have attached some demonstration videos to assist you.
BE AWARE that you can become fatigued during this process if you have an extremely sluggish lymphatic system because the dry brushing alone will physically kick start your detox system and you will get a flush of toxins being released from the body.
Don’t over do it, for some people, daily intense brushing is too much. Always listen to your body and follow your intuition.
